Recently Windfall Carwash held a fundraiser collecting donations and giving proceeds from a day’s car washes to the Christian Cordero Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The Steering Committee of WWC, offered an incentive for new and renewing members who paid their dues by December 16th. Those who did were entered into a drawing to be a “Donor Advisor for a Day”. The Winners was able to give their favorite (501 c 3) charity a special donation.
Over $17,000 was distributed to Johnsonburg School Districts from the Elk County Community Foundation. As an approved Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC) partner the Foundation receives donations from qualified business to provide innovative educational programing with in the public schools k-12 school.
The Elk County Community Foundation recently made the first distribution of the R. Thomas and Mary Rita Valentine Charitable Fund for the Elk County Catholic School System (ECCSS). Tom and Mary Rita had both worked and retired from Stackpole Carbon Company. They were members of Queen of the World Church, devout in their faith and active in their community.
Over $18,000 was distributed to Ridgway School Districts from the Elk County Community Foundation.
Alex O’Neill, on the right, is the 2014 recipient of Christian Cordero Memorial Scholarship, administered by the Elk County Community Foundation.
The Kathryn Kilhoffer Walsh Nursing Scholarship awarded $725 to Leah Kucinski a graduate of Elk County Catholic High School and the Elk Diabetes Nursing Scholarship awarded $500 to Ashley Fabiano from Johnsonburg Area High School.
Recently, the management at Straub Brewery met with the students from Elk County Catholic High School and St. Marys Area High School to congratulate them on winning the $1,000 Straub Brewery Scholarships this year.
Recently, Plant Manager, Tom Detsch, standing on the left and Human Resource Manager, Kathy Kennedy, on the right, from SGL Carbon met with students who were selected to be awarded $500 each in the form of a scholarship from SGL Carbon.
The Elk County Community Foundation awarded a total of 122 scholarships to local students this year totaling over $153,450 in scholarship funds.
Recently, Keystone Health Plan West a Highmark Company presented a check to the Elk County Community Foundation from their Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC) approved donations
Recently, the Joseph A. Williams Medical Scholarship for $4400 was awarded to Eric Mastrogiacomo of St. Marys, by the Elk County Community Foundation and affiliate of the Community Foundation of North Central PA.

Recently Farmers National Bank presented a $3,000 check to the Elk County Community Foundation. These funds will be included in the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC) which then will make grants available to area public schools to support innovative educational programs that do not fall within the typical academic program.
Mr. Sam MacDonald, president of the Elk County Catholic School System, is pleased to announce they have transerred the Gilbert J. and Dorothy E. Hoehn Scholarship Fund and the Edna Geitner Bennett Memorial Scholarship Fund to the Elk County Community Foundation for management.
Recently, the board and volunteer of the Elk County Society for Special Services closed their doors but the work done by these dedicated volunteers will be remembered and the funds they had will continue to serve pre-k students for generations to come.
